Black Magma penthouse

Inspired by: Iceland volcanic landscapes

Typology: Private property, penthouse

Location: Russia, Saint-Petersburg

Project area: 145 m²

Date: January, 2023

This interior channels the raw serenity and dramatic minimalism of Icelandic landscapes. It is not a literal imitation of nature, but a distilled interpretation—capturing volcanic darkness, glacial clarity, and vast spatial openness. The design reflects Iceland’s contrasts: fire and ice, rough terrain and smooth water, shadow and diffused northern light. Rather than relying on ornament, the space communicates through material authenticity and atmospheric restraint. The room feels grounded, elemental, and contemplative—like standing on cooled lava fields beneath a pale Arctic sky. The aesthetic balances strength and softness, where sculptural forms emerge quietly from a muted, monochromatic palette.

This interior tells a story of elemental balance. It captures Iceland not as a tourist destination, but as a feeling—solitude, resilience, and awe. The room feels like a modern sanctuary carved from nature itself. It invites slow living: reading by soft light, watching shadows move, experiencing silence. The dark tones provide enclosure and safety, while the pale surfaces suggest clarity and calm.
